Who We Are

Global Agricultural Extension and Rural Services (GAERS) is a grassroots-led initiative rethinking agricultural advisory in Nigeria. We use simple, accessible digital tools—especially WhatsApp—together with trusted community networks and farmer-led knowledge to close long-standing gaps in extension services.

Our Focus Areas

Practical programmes and partnerships that strengthen farmers, youth, and rural communities.

Soil Health & Regenerative Farming

We train farmers and facilitators in composting, bio-inputs, microbial fertilisers, dry sowing systems, and practical soil restoration methods that reduce dependence on costly chemicals.

Market-Aware Livelihood Design

We support communities to design realistic farming and livelihood pathways that respond to local markets — not assumptions.

Training of Trainers (ToT)

We equip youth leaders, extension agents, and lead farmers with facilitation skills to replicate climate-smart and regenerative practices in their communities.

Digital & Virtual Exchange Learning

Through partnerships such as the Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange programme, we connect youth across regions to share knowledge and build green skills.

Digital E-Learning for Volunteer Agents
GAERS launched its first structured E-Learning Program to upskill volunteer extension agents after observing significant knowledge gaps during farmer interactions — particularly among women volunteers who often lacked confidence in addressing technical questions. The program consisted of seven modules covering soil health, sustainable farming practices, safe post-harvest handling, extension delivery, and farmer engagement.

Food Safety & Post-Harvest Program
This workshop, held in Zaria and focused on vegetable farmers, was designed in response to findings from our farmer survey. It also marked the official launch of IDAP Zaria — GAERS’ first dedicated farmer WhatsApp group. Before this, GAERS only operated a general stakeholder group. With IDAP Zaria, we created a space for continuous learning and peer support, ensuring farmers remain equipped with practical knowledge beyond the training event.
