Digital E-Learning for Volunteer Agents

Project Details

GAERS launched its first structured E-Learning Program to upskill volunteer extension agents after observing significant knowledge gaps during farmer interactions — particularly among women volunteers who often lacked confidence in addressing technical questions. The program consisted of seven modules covering soil health, sustainable farming practices, safe post-harvest handling, extension delivery, and farmer engagement. The first final exam was conducted in a hybrid format, with 15 agents (6 women) participating — 11 onsite in Sokoto and 4 using smartphones remotely. To ensure inclusivity, GAERS later conducted a retake exam for those who had missed the opportunity or did not meet the pass mark. 📌 Impact: A total of 16 volunteer agents have now successfully completed the program. 5 agents achieved perfect scores of 100%, reflecting the effectiveness of the training. Agents reported greater confidence and clarity in providing advisory services to farmers. The program has laid the foundation for the upcoming GAERS Certification Program, which will formally recognize volunteer extension agents at our one-year anniversary celebration. By deliberately supporting women volunteers and youth, the program has strengthened inclusivity and built a stronger base of future agricultural leaders.
