Our story

What GAERS Is Building

The Challenge That Started It All

Global Agricultural Extension and Rural Services (GAERS) was founded to bridge a critical gap in Nigerian agriculture. Across the northern regions—where small-scale farming is the true backbone of food security and rural livelihoods—millions of farming households face compounding crises: severe soil degradation, skyrocketing chemical input costs, changing dryland weather patterns, and a vast shortage of reliable extension support.

For too long, a disconnect has existed between agricultural innovation and the everyday farmer. Advanced research stayed locked in institutions, while farmers were left with few practical tools to combat declining yields and rising costs.

Our Belief & Approach

We believe true agricultural transformation happens when farmers receive practical knowledge, trusted technical guidance, and climate-smart solutions they can realistically afford and adopt.

Rather than pushing one-size-fits-all methods, GAERS takes a community-rooted, science-backed approach. Through our core Building Soil Health (BSH) framework, we combine:

Regenerative Agriculture: Equipping farmers with low-cost bio-input solutions, organic compost, water-conservation techniques, and soil restoration practices.

Academic & Science Partnerships: Partnering with leading institutions—including the Department of Soil Science at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS)—to bring rapid, data-backed soil diagnostics directly to the field.

Practical Learning Hubs: Operating community demonstration farms and innovation hubs where farmers, Master Trainers, and youth learn through hands-on practice.

Last-Mile Digital Extension: Utilizing accessible, localized digital tools—such as active Hausa-language WhatsApp learning groups and SMS advisories—to deliver real-time agronomic guidance directly to farmers' phones.
